Life on earth depends on water and the mismanagement of water resources endangers the ecological balance and quality of life. In a general framework for environmental education, water education becomes particularly relevant and urgent for the teachers all over the world providing a context which allows them to form the students’ responsible behavior regarding water resources. According to recent researches, the freshwater sources, not as rich as it is thought, couldn’t be used for any reasons and although it is a renewable source it is not enough to meet the demands of rapidly increasing population which urges people to an awareness of society for water savings.
In order to respond to the needs of the rapidly changing world, schools need to develop a full range of key competencies in young people. The project, likely to start in 2012 will accompany the
students to discover the value of water and look for small/large solutions to improve our individual and collective relationship with this precious asset. We believe such a dramatic and topical theme can be treated very effectively with children through active exchange/twinning with other classes in other countries where there may be situations of scarcity of water, getting the youth to make even a detection against waste at home, school or district, water resource. This is an educational challenge which aims at creating a new attitude to water once considered inexhaustible but rapidly decreasing in quantity and quality.
We plan to attain the purpose making a newspaper and online booklet containing all the materials produced by every school (individual works), a logo of the partnership project, a touristic brochure, a CD-ROM version of the brochure, poems-songs-artworks-comic strips about water, project website (common works).
